Ertan Hydropower Station

Ertan - The largest hydropower station completed in China in 20th century

Ertan Hydropower Station is Located in Panzhihua City of Sichuan Province, and is the first stage project in cascade power developments on lower reach of Yalong River. It is a huge hydropower project with main purpose for power generation, the total installed capacity of Ertan is 3300MW and with a 240m thin double curvature arch dam. Many engineering characteristics are among the best worldwide. Construction preparation of Ertan began in 1987, main project construction started in 1991 and the first unit was put into operation in 1998. The whole project was completed in 2001. Since the astonishing achievement of Ertan, Chengdu Engineering Corporation Limited obtained Gold Awards of both Engineering Investigation and Engineering Design in China.

 

Jinping I Hydropower Station

Jinping I - The highest arch dam under construction in the world
 
- Control reservoir for lower reach of yalong river
 

Jinping I Hydropower Station is located at Yanyuan County and Muli County in Sichuan Province and has a control reservoir for lower reach of Yalong River. The main purpose of the project is power generation with other functions of flood and sedimentation control. The total installed capacity of Jinping I is 3600MW and with a concrete arch dam of 305m in height, which is the highest arch dam in the world. The annual operation hours of units are 4836h and annual output is 17410GWh. This project is the high quality power supply for “West-east power transmission” in China. The construction of Jinping I was started on September 8th, 2005, the river closure has been implemented on December 4th, 2006, the first unit was put into operation in August 2013, and all units were put into commission in June 2014, the whole project will be completed in 2025.

 

Xiluodu Hydropower Station

Xiluodu - The second largest hydropower project in China (next to the Three Gorges Project)
 
- The biggest flood discharge capacity through dam body in the world
- The largest underground powerhouse in the world
- The first project on Jinsha River power developments
 

Xiluodu Hydropower station is located on Jinsha River at Leibo County in Sichuan Province and Yongshan County in Yunnan Province; it is the first project of Jinsha River cascade developments, which is the largest hydropower base in China. Xiluodu is a multipurpose project including power generation, sedimentation &flood control, downstream navigation improvement etc. The total installed capacity is 13860MW and annual output is 57400GWh. The concrete double curvature arch dam is 278m in height, which is higher than the existing highest Inguri dam in the world. The total reservoir storage capacity is 12230x106m3 with a partial annual regulation function. This project is the main power supply for “West-east power transmission” in China. The construction was started in 2005. The storage level of reservoir reached El. 540m on June 23, 2013, the first unit was put into operation on July 15th, 2013, and the whole project will be completed in 2015.

RCC arch dam height: 130m, the highest RCC arch dam in the world
The project is located in the Earthquake Center during Wenchuan Earthquake (intensity measured at 8.0 Ms and 7.9 Mw)and remains safe.
